The Rotary Club of Ipswich East was formed in 1971 as daughter club to the Rotary Club of Ipswich which was founded in 1923. The Club has approximately 62 members and meets every Tuesday lunchtime at the Greshams Sports and Social Club, Tuddenham Road, Ipswich (an evening meeting is held on any 5th Tuesday in a month) The Club holds two major fundraising events in the year: The Orwell Walk Details of this form the main part of this web site, and over 30 years, the Walk has raised over £1million for charities. Charity Golf Tournament This is held each year at the Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club. The event is open to teams of three golfers. There are some excellent prizes to be won and the day enables a considerable donation to be made to charity. The next event is to be posted here soon.

The club also organises several community projects throughout the year (if you would like further information e-mail Graham Bickers) and these include: Senior Citizens Concert This is held in the autumn each year at Coplestone School and up to 400 senior citizens attend. Kids Out This event, held in June, takes 100 or so children with learning difficulties on a day out (currently Colchester Zoo). Senior Citizens Quiz This is a knockout general knowledge quiz arranged between various residential homes in Ipswich. Stroke Awareness Day In conjunction with the Stroke Association, the Club organises a blood pressure testing day. The intention is to inform people of the link between high blood pressure and the chances of having a stroke. The testing is carried out by medically qualified personnel, and those people tested who are considered to have high blood pressure are advised to see their GP. Next event is to be posted here. |
