The next Walk is 27th June 2010
Assembly Point Amberfield School, Ipswich. Location Amberfield School nestles in pleasant woodland on the edge of Nacton village, near Ipswich. Benefiting from its peaceful, out-of-town location it is nonetheless well placed for major routes including the A12 and A14. The school provides bus services from Long Melford, Woodbridge, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Ipswich. Car Parking There is ample car parking space. Follow the signs and please do not park in the street. Departure Times Headquarters open at 7am. The last departure for those walking 25 miles is 9am, but those walking a shorter distance may leave as late as 10.30am. Final start time from any check point will be 2pm. You Must Bring Your sponsorship card. Please total the value per mile and donations before handing in at HQ. You will then be handed your Walk check card.
Food and Drink Bring your own food. Water, orange or lemon squash will be supplied free of charge upon request at all check points, as well as tea or coffee at Amberfield School at the end of the Walk.
Course Marking Directional boards and high visibility plastic ribbon tied to stakes, hedgerows etc, will mark the route in difficult places. Samples will be on display at HQ. Keep to the paths and shut all gates. The route may be altered from previous years. Full details will be displayed and signposts show the changes. DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOU KNOW THE ROUTE.
At Each Control Ensure that the duty marshal signs your check card. First Aid will be available and you may report any emergency. No Dogs No dogs are allowed.
Clothing Bring warm and waterproof clothing and either walking boots or stout shoes. Walk baseball caps will be available to purchase on the day (proceeds to charity).
Preparation Please ensure that you have prepared properly with the right kind of clothing for all weathers and have an adequate fitness level for the distance you wish to walk.
Click here to download health advice from St Johns Ambulance Dropping Out All walkers must report to Amberfield School (HQ) at the end of the Walk. If you drop out for any reason, you will be transported back to HQ. Sweeper Marshal A marshal will leave HQ behind the last walker to travel the complete course for the purpose of clearing the route and to ensure no casualty is left behind. If the sweeper overtakes a straggler, the person must drop out at the next control point and will be returned to HQ by minibus.
